Visine for Dreamwidth :-)

Love the idea of being able to get your sick!Wilson fix here when LJ is down, but aren't too crazy about Dreamwidth's red color scheme at our emergency shelter?

Well, unfortunately, we haven't figured out a way yet to override the default settings for non-customized pages without adding a bunch of extra code, which would seriously cut down on the number of fics we could fit on each page.

But if you have a Dreamwidth account and are logged in, there's an easy way to get the red out. ;-)

What is this virtual Visine of which you speak?  So glad you asked.

All you need to do is change your site skin.  That's it.  Easy peasy.

The cool thing is that it won't actually change your layout theme.  It will just make non-customized pages like our sick!fic threads look different to you when you're logged in.

The images below have been re-sized to make it easier to follow the text.  If you need a larger version so you can see the details better, just position your cursor anywhere on that pic and click.

How to Change Your Site Skin on Dreamwidth

  1. Go to your Dreamwidth account and log in.

  2. Click where it says Settings in the upper left hand corner, below the gray Log out button.

  3. Click the Display tab (the second tab from the left), and your screen should now look like this:

  4. Scroll down to where it says Site Skin, and change from the default Tropospherical Red to whichever option tickles your fancy.

Your humble mod uses Tropospherical Purple just because the formatting is pretty much the same, and allows us to see how our posts are going to look to people who don't have a Dreamwidth account or who aren't logged in, but in a more aesthetically pleasing color scheme while we work.  So if you select another option, it's possible that some things may look a little wonky. :)

  5. Scroll down to the end of the page and click the Save button.

  6. So now when you're logged into your Dreamwidth account and visit our emergency site, instead of a sick!fic page looking like this:

  7. It might look like this (depending on which site skin you selected):

If you don't have a Dreamwidth account and would like to set one up, you don't need an invite code anymore.  Just go here, select Create Free Account, and follow the directions.

And as always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. :)
