Parties and fireworks on the fourth of July were as American as apple pie and Wilson had always loved every minute of the patriotic neighborhood celebration as a kid. He’d even been allowed – under strict parental supervision – to shoot a few bottle rockets.

Naturally, when he’d gotten the condo he’d gone about organizing a party for all of his neighbors to be celebrated in a nearby park, even splurging on some bottle rockets to shoot for old time’s sake.

Something House wasn’t planning to let him forget as he watched his friend eat a barbecue sandwich with bandage-swathed burned hands.

"War" being under "typical American things" made me laugh. I suppose that is not really funny, but still... (I blame it on the two glasses of wine I had tonight).

I will try this weekend to write another drabble using this as a template. Must. Get. Sailboat. Badge. ;)

Somehow I have a feeling House would not be the one in that regard. House supervising Wilson with fireworks would be like a fox supervising the chickens.

Oh! Question. Is there any British Holiday around now? Or a European one? I felt a little bad leaving out a chunk of people that weren't North American this week.

P.S. I don't know if it's just because I'm really tired or what, but a Brit wishing a Canadian happy 4th just struck me as really funny (though I assume the wishing was for everyone). :D

There is no holiday for us Brits I'm afraid. Next holiday will be the Summer Bank Holiday which is at the end of the month. And I'm not at work for that!! YESSSSS..............

There's no Aussie holidays this time of year either. The last one some of us had was beginning of June - the Queen's birthday which is fairly odd because it's not her birthday then :)

Which Queen's birthday do you celebrate? We do Queen Victoria's around the 24th of May (which is now lovingly referred to as the May 2-4 weekend because of the date and because it's the unofficial national drinking holiday and large cases of beer have 24 bottles :D).

And it might as well be summer, most if the country seems to stay above the freezing mark all year. Damn, I really need to live in the southern hemisphere! :D

My sister's birthday is on May 24 - she should move to Canada! I don't honestly know where the queen's birthday thing came from - I think its an 'official' birthdate - something to do with the Trooping of the Colour ceremony in London. Why we have it off I have no idea, just an excuse for a holiday I think :) We do bank holidays as well but unfortunately only bank workers get those off....

Yes she should! I think May 2-4 might be the biggest long weekend of our summer. She'd have a blast! We don't have anything called Bank Holidays, but we do have something similar. The first Monday in August is th 'Civic Holiday' which doesn't have to be honoured (each city's government decides if they will have it. Most do), bit mostly it's just banks and government offices that are actually closed. I think some malls do too. Everyone that has to work either gets extra pay or a bonus vacation day though. We have another one in February that's only been around for about 2 years now called Family Day and basically works out to the winter version of the same thing. I don't usually take notice of them though as I've never worked a job that closed on holidays (except Christmas Day).

I would kill to live somewhere where a bad winter was hitting zero. In our equivalent to July (which would be January) if it only went down to zero we'd think it was warm and people would be wearing shorts (seriously). That time of year we're usually around -10 to -15 not including a windchill factor. I hate it. It's summer for me now though and it was a beautiful 35 out!

Because it's the last day of camp, and deadlines always make my muse come out to play. A ficlet and my second-ever (I think) manip. In both, I used apple pie (Group 1), fireworks (Group 2), and burns (Group 3).

Only Wilson, House thought, as he watched his friend sputter. Only Wilson could bitch about all the normal Fourth-of-July things being too dangerous, and then go and burn himself on a Goddamned apple pie. To be fair, they were at McDonalds in the first place because Wilson had decided it was the safest place to take House for dinner: far away from the illegal fireworks he knew perfectly well House had hidden under his bed, and someplace House enjoyed enough not to grouch too much about being brought there. Except he still doesn't know half the fun is watching him watch me eat. Why Wilson had decided that the summer was a good time for a diet, House didn't know and didn't care. It just meant more torture material for him. But Wilson hadn't been able to resist sneaking a bite of House's pie, and even though he'd tried--it wasn't ever his intention to hurt Wilson too badly--his mouth was too full of hamburger to warn him away in time. The near-boiling filling had coated Wilson's tongue and splashed on his hand, leading to where they were now: with Wilson manfully trying not to scream in pain, and House trying equally hard not to laugh aloud. But even as he schooled his featured into a mask of pure concern, he couldn't help mentally shaking his head. Only Wilson.
