Oh! Question. Is there any British Holiday around now? Or a European one? I felt a little bad leaving out a chunk of people that weren't North American this week.

P.S. I don't know if it's just because I'm really tired or what, but a Brit wishing a Canadian happy 4th just struck me as really funny (though I assume the wishing was for everyone). :D

There is no holiday for us Brits I'm afraid. Next holiday will be the Summer Bank Holiday which is at the end of the month. And I'm not at work for that!! YESSSSS..............

A bank holiday? Us that just a random, nothing holiday (like our civic holiday) or does it celebrate something?

There's no Aussie holidays this time of year either. The last one some of us had was beginning of June - the Queen's birthday which is fairly odd because it's not her birthday then :)

Which Queen's birthday do you celebrate? We do Queen Victoria's around the 24th of May (which is now lovingly referred to as the May 2-4 weekend because of the date and because it's the unofficial national drinking holiday and large cases of beer have 24 bottles :D).

And it might as well be summer, most if the country seems to stay above the freezing mark all year. Damn, I really need to live in the southern hemisphere! :D

My sister's birthday is on May 24 - she should move to Canada! I don't honestly know where the queen's birthday thing came from - I think its an 'official' birthdate - something to do with the Trooping of the Colour ceremony in London. Why we have it off I have no idea, just an excuse for a holiday I think :) We do bank holidays as well but unfortunately only bank workers get those off....

Hey,we had a cold snap in Sydney last week - it got down to zero (celsius) overnight! We were complaining all week :)

Yes she should! I think May 2-4 might be the biggest long weekend of our summer. She'd have a blast! We don't have anything called Bank Holidays, but we do have something similar. The first Monday in August is th 'Civic Holiday' which doesn't have to be honoured (each city's government decides if they will have it. Most do), bit mostly it's just banks and government offices that are actually closed. I think some malls do too. Everyone that has to work either gets extra pay or a bonus vacation day though. We have another one in February that's only been around for about 2 years now called Family Day and basically works out to the winter version of the same thing. I don't usually take notice of them though as I've never worked a job that closed on holidays (except Christmas Day).

I would kill to live somewhere where a bad winter was hitting zero. In our equivalent to July (which would be January) if it only went down to zero we'd think it was warm and people would be wearing shorts (seriously). That time of year we're usually around -10 to -15 not including a windchill factor. I hate it. It's summer for me now though and it was a beautiful 35 out!
