How to Make an Icon - tutorial
Macro!guide seemed to be useful for some people, which is great. Let's take it to a higher level! Today you'll learn how to do a simple icon :-)
Since I used PhotoFiltre for the macro tutorial, I'm going to use it again here so you can build upon what you've already learned.
These illustrations are taken in the older version of Photofiltre so they may look a little different, but everything should still be in the same place.
1. Start the program. You should wind up with a screen that looks something like this:
2. Select File from the menu at the top of the page, then Open, to open your base picture.
3. Once you are done, it will appear in its own little window.
4. Click the rectangle tool in the menu area in lower right hand corner of the screen.
5. Now we're going to border what we want to include in our icon.
6. Adjust the border into an approximate square and then choose square.
7. It will help you to make a perfect 'width = height' picture.
8. Now we are going to crop it. Right-mouse-click -> Crop.
9. Voila! The icon is almost done.
In this moment (when it's still a big picture), it's time to add text if you'd like. You can use the macro tutorial to learn how. Don't forget that once you'll resize the picture, the text will be shrunken as well so it has to be really big in this phase.
10. Next step is adjusting the size. So, right-mouse-click -> Image size.
11. Icons are 100x100 pixels. Adjust one dimension and the other will change automatically. Then 'okay'.
12. Nicely done! You have a new icon.
13. If the icon is too dark/light, you can adjust Gamma. Either + or -
14. Don't forget to save! :-)
15. Here you can just click 'okay'.
16. And the icon is ready to see the light of the LJ *gg*
