Good morning/afternoon/evening, RenFest revelers! Today I thought we could all take a break from jousting and head over to the tavern for some drink and conversation. In the spirit of looking back in time, we mods want to know:

What are your favorite “what if?” scenarios from canon?

For example: What if Wilson’s couch chemo had worked? How would you see the end of the series playing out?

Or what if we (and House?) had actually met Danny? … What if House had followed up on his discovery (in "Resignation") that Wilson was on antidepressants? … What if we’d learned what Wilson’s life was like while House was in prison?

Feel free to discuss those questions, or your own “what if?” scenarios, in the comments section below. The only requirement is that your ideas have a sick!Wilson-y flavor. We might even generate some fic inspiration. ;)

Fill your goblets with ale and stay a while!

Howdy Campers!
Hope you had a chance to catch up with old friends, meet new ones, and sort out your cabin assignments. And before you ask (again), House adamantly refuses to share his cabin with anyone other than you-know-who. Confidentially, I think you'd have a better chance if you register at our sister camp across the lake, Camp Ffdotnet.

Well, it looks like everyone is comfortable and already tearing into the bag of marshmallows, so let's get started. Our discussion will center around Wilson and...

CANON MYSTERIES

Mwah hahahaha

Um, they aren't really scary, but it's obligatory patois when sitting around a campfire.

So, here's a chance to unravel Wilson's secrets, lies, and half-truths. Also the time to bring up your own burning questions or share your theories.

To get the ball rolling, the mods gave me a list of unresolved issues that piqued their curiosity. )

Howdy, Campers!

It’s that time again—the last day of camp, which means before the buses arrive, let's get down, let's get crazy, LET'S PARTAY!

Come to the mess hall and scarf up the leftovers trashy eats whipped up by your mod team, and mingle amongst your new and old friends. A projector and mike are set up for you to share your arts and crafts projects. Show off any graphics you’ve worked on or any partially finished or rough drafts. We all crave one more sick!Wilson creation to ooh and aah over, so don't be shy. And if you like, we’ll be happy to offer encouragement or suggestions. Just ask.

To get the conversation started, here are some topics to discuss. Answer any or all of them, or go right ahead and pose your own.

  • A year later, do you still miss House MD and Wilson? What are you doing to cope?
  • Are you watching reruns? In retrospect which arc did you like the most? Least? why?
  • Since the show ended, have your thoughts about any of House characters changed?
  • Besides House, is there another character you would like Wilson to interact with?
  • Would you want a reunion show?
  • If you were a screenwriter and wrote a reunion show, which network would you choose: Fox, ABC, or HBO? What would be your pitch?

  • Does your House-love extend beyond the show and characters? Did anybody see HL or RSL in live performances in the past year? Share your experience(s).
  • Anyone watching Falling Skies? Does Dr. Kadar resemble Dr. Wilson? How do they differ?

  • Are there any new shows or characters filling in the House-sized hole left in your viewing schedule? Anything you’d like to recommend? Why?

Something new this year—you can earn an activity or specialty badge by participating in this activity! Here’s a chance to go home with a souvenir from camp or bump up a star. Don’t forget to pick up one before you leave.

All of us love a good sick WIlson (House included), and the show ended with the mother load of sick!Wilson. But for some of us, it wasn't exactly what we wanted to see. For others, it was perfect, but they were other missed opportunities along the series' way for sick!Wilson situations. What sick!Wilson storyline would you have liked to have seen during the show? Tell us the following:

Illness/Injury:
What season would you have placed it in:
How House would have handled it:
How would Wilson have handled it:
How would it have affected the show, if at all:
Anything else to mention:

The illness/injury could be minor, chronic, terminal, or what have you. And although this post is called "Not Cancer", it is fine to give him a different cancer with different intensity. I recall reading recently that the writers had thought about giving Wilson cancer for several seasons.

Please put your ideas in the comments. This is not connected to fic writing, but of course if it sparks an idea for a fic just check with the commenter for permission and then please go a ahead and write one (assuming the commenter is okay with that). And feel free to comment on other camper's ideas so we can get some discussions going.

This will earn you an activity badge. Have fun!

"First game is October 8th. That's about one month after Wilson's expiration date."

Welp, September has arrived. Have you been thinking about House and Wilson and how their road trip is faring? Here's your chance to air your theories, vent, rant, or sob. Feel free to discuss with members what's on your mind.

Well Campers, here we are again, the last day of camp. It's always a bittersweet occasion, particularly this one, since it marks the series' end.

How can anyone not get emotional? Saying goodbye to new and old friends, regretting our decision to scarf up a strawberry shortcake instead of joining in an impromptu game of pin the tail on the donkey--only to find out later the donkey was code for our favorite oncologist, and the tail... I'll leave it to your imagination. *shakes head* Darn it, can't do it all.

So while we wait around for the buses, help yourselves to the brunch buffet in the mess tent, take advantage of the great company, chat and hug it out!

As an icebreaker, here's a template for you to use. Please tailor it to your tastes, or whatever you feel comfortable with.

ETA: Just received word from House. Wilson's surgery was successful. Everything remains intact and should be in working order after a six week recovery period.

Howdy Campers!

Sorry about my late arrival. What a morning! Got tangled in my hammock and had to gnaw my way through the ropes. Then discovered we were out of lighter fluid!

With camp about to end, I thought we could delve into the cheery topic of angst--an ingredient often but not always found in sick!Wilson stories. For that matter canon hasn't shied away from leaving Wilson in tears. There was Amber, and we just had Wilson coming to terms with his cancer. (*sob* pardon me for a moment... *deep breaths*) However, when House rapped Wilson's shin with his cane, that was angst free. Help me out here. Can anybody recount other situations of either kind?

Also, angst can take several forms in stories: Wilson could be upset, and/or House could be worried about Wilson, and/or as readers, we could be upset for both of them. Do you have any preferences when reading or writing?

Just for fun, here's a few more questions to ponder. Now that it's over a month since the finale, have you reviewed the finale arc again? Did you discover anything new you missed the first time? Does something make more sense now that you viewed in it's entirety? And here's the biggie: As the guys rode off into the sunset, in your heart of hearts, what prognosis did Shore intend for Wilson?

Since it's just us around the campfire, feel free to tackle any of the subjects introduced or add your own. And please mingle. I'm gonna sit back and try to mend my hammock.

Only one rule applies: no one hogs the graham crackers, chocolate, or marshmallows, y'hear?

A prolific writer and dyed-in-the-wool slasher, Shipper has built a vast universe for House and Wilson to occupy in good times and in angst. And what a world it is. At the core is Twenty Years of Stealing My Food, a multi-chapter fic written from 2007 – 2010 that details their pre-canon years. In addition there are 59 more stories, which add depth to canon, continuing beyond it and into the future.

In between that time frame, Shipper has successfully documented House and Wilson's relationship in interesting formats. There are a delightful profusion of "five times" stories, such as, Up Close and Personal: Five Times Wilson's Nieces Saw Him With House, and three Big Bang pieces, two of which are crossovers that feature detectives from literature, Rex Stout in A Distorted Genius and Stephanie Plum, in Bounty Hunter Bedlam. And of course, dear to our sick!Wilsony hearts, seven sick Wilson stories—three written from sickwilson_fest prompts. Two favorites are, Enough of the Déjà Vu, and Stalker Boy.

Shipper also created one of fandom's most often used and cited references—a detailed chronological timeline incorporating House and Wilson's schools, the hospitals they worked at, marriages and romances beginning in 1985 through season 8 of canon.

Please give [livejournal.com profile] hwshipper a warm welcome!

Howdy Campers!

Do you know what time it is?! Why it's time to break out the graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bars, and raise our conversation to an all-time sugar high.

Today's topic: The Saddest Man in New Jersey

That's what RSL called Wilson during the series. Now that it's over let's revisit the concept. What is it about Wilson that makes him sick!fic fodder? Is it built into the character or does RSL bring that "certain something"? What makes us pick up on it? With the finale we know even tptb saw and wanted to exploit it. Is it because Wilson is House’s sole support system, and the key to House’s vulnerability, or is it intrinsic to Wilson?

Bonus questions:
  • When did you first discover Wilson was a prime candidate for suffering?
  • Was it unfair what tptb did to Wilson?
As in years past, please feel free to air your opinions and discuss amongst yourselves.

And don't forget to pass the bag of marshmallows to your neighbor.

It's hard to believe the show is over <sniff>.  It's been a one heck of a ride, and we're glad you all were here to take it with us.

We mods put our heads together and had a few questions about the finale.  We'd love to hear your answers, but we're also happy to completely ignore them and just talk about the show and your thoughts about the episode.  And if you have any questions to add, go right ahead!

  • Did the final arc fulfill or fall short of any of our sick!Wilsony goals?
  • Did it give us enough hurt/comfort?
  • Did it answer all our questions about the HW relationship?
  • Are the guys soul mates?
  • Did it bring up issues we never considered?

Does anyone have any idea how long Wilson had cancer before he was diagnosed?  When did that tumour* start growing?

You may have noticed that our birthday decorations have been taken down.  We don't feel much like partying any more.  Your humble mod team is still in shock.   If you all want to talk, to discuss the episode or your reactions to it, give your worst case or best case ideas for the finale, share cupcake recipes or pictures of cats...this is the place for it.

Yes, for this discussion ONLY we're encouraging you to go ahead and post whatever you want.

ETA:  Because of everything that's going on, we've delayed HWShipper's Writer's Studio piece.  We didn't want anything to take attention away from her segment.
[identity profile] yarroway.livejournal.com
[livejournal.com profile] deelaundry has 16 sick fics in our archive. She's had Wilson kill himself (The Drop of Water), separated him and House (Locked Up and Set Free) and institutionalized him (Commitment) but she’s also given him and House a happily-ever-after ending (Arureos (Greek for Rat)). She’s participated in a Big Bang challenge with the House/Stargate Atlantis crossover, In For A Pound. Dee has several series of fics. The best known may be her My Fathers’ Son series. Aside from serious angst, Dee writes humor (Rock Your Body), friendship  (Account Balance Zero) and smut with a kick (Sub)  In addition to writing her own fics, Dee works as part of [livejournal.com profile] black_cigarette.  They were all kind enough to answer a few questions, which we posted in Nightdog's interview. You can find that section here, just scroll down to the Special Bonus Section at the very end.

Dee’s House fics can be found on her LJ, and at AO3.

[livejournal.com profile] nightdog_barks has contributed 53 sick fics to our archive over the past 5 years, focusing on different aspects of the spectrum: emotional hurt (Kissing The Unicorn), recovery/disability (Duck Duck Goose), and physical injury (Loss Reserve). Her story Bad Company caused the Black Cigarette Collective to form (Nightdog is a member) and as a group they penned Aftershocks, which is a classic recovery fic and the sequel to Bad Company. Along with the Collective, Nightdog also has a WIP, Distress Call, a science fiction AU.

Nightdog is a writer with a broad range of interests. She writes slash (Letters of Transit) and gen (Secret Language of Owls), slice of life fics (Emperor of Nebraska), and sweet fics (Shipwreck). Nightdog has a talent for dark and disturbing stories like Slipcovers, Divergence, and These Crimes Between Us, and has posted many of these. She's also written several historical AUs of which The Annals, a series of stories set in the time of the Roman Empire, is most widely known.  She has a way of bringing the historical period to life while keeping the story's focus firmly on the chaacters and plot.

Her fics can be found on LJ and AO3

Please welcome Nightdog!

What are everyone's favorite ways to hurt Wilson? Do you prefer emotional or physical injuries or do you like a balance?
[identity profile] yarroway.livejournal.com
Pull up a seat, and have some s'mores.  Let's talk AU.

I love AUs.  One of the great things about them is that they open up a whole new range of maladies and misfortunes to inflict on Our Heroes. There are stories set far in the future or past, supernatural stories with vampires and werewolves, sci-fi stories with robots and fantasy stories with demons and angels.  Are there kind of AUs you like and ones you don't (for instance, maybe you love historical stories but hate ones with a supernatural element)?  Do you hate the entire genre?

As a side question, I've always been curious what readers perceive as an AU and what they don't.  Most ratings seem to be based on the setting more than anything else. If the setting is canon but Wilson is a woman, is that AU?  What if someone is a shape-changer, or a telepath, or the story includes weird mystical powers, zombies or mpreg, is that AU?  If House and Wilson appear exactly as in canon but are practicing medicine in a field hospital in Afghanistan, is that AU?  Where, in other words, are the boundaries?  Is all fanfiction a kind of AU and it's just a matter of degree?
